The project will start on 1st September 2014 – 31st March 2015, with the possibility of extension to 31st July 2015.

Role Description


Main Purpose of Post:


-To work as a member of the Minority Ethnic Achievement Team, contributing to the aims and objectives of the team, through assisting school staff and providing bilingual support for pupils.


Duties and Responsibilities:


-To work under the guidance of the class/subject teacher/senior school staff/MEA Coordinator.
-To work (under supervision) bilingually with a pupil or group of pupils to ensure access to the curriculum.
-To translate curricular materials, as appropriate, as requested by class/subject teacher/MEA Coordinator.
-To translate school communications/letters (written, phone, face to face).
-To attend parents’ evenings, or other school based activities, to act as an interpreter.
-To make home visits, when necessary, accompanied by school staff/EWO/MEA Coordinator.
-To liaise with other agencies, as appropriate, in respect of supported pupils.
-To assess pupil’s competency in the home language and prepare written reports.
-To maintain appropriate records on supported pupils.
-To liaise with school staff/MEA Coordinator to plan, support and monitor progress of supported pupils.
-To provide information on supported pupils’ languages and culture, as appropriate, to school staff and MEA Coordinator.
-To promote inclusion and ensure equal access to educational opportunities to supported pupils.
-To promote approaches at school level that value linguistic, religious and cultural diversity.
-To undertake appropriate training and be committed to professional development.
-To be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to the LEA including: child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
-To undertake any other reasonable duties as outlined by the MEA Coordinator.
